2.02 Iphone update - Are you kidding me?

So can anyone tell me what this was suppose to do? 3G performance is still extremely poor and battery draining. I see that there are some class action lawsuit poping up because of the continued issues with the carrier service and posible chip defect.

WinAdmin Native Remote Desktop App for Iphone 3G

This one is awesome and what I've been waiting for and it's an Iphone app that actually works. I used it sever times to make minor admin changes to the servers and reboots. The vpn on the Iphone also work well so I can now administrate my infrastructure securely via handheld. The app navigate like the safari browser and works when you turn the Iphone to its side. Great Job done on this one!

FAQ: iPhone 3G reception -- What's the problem?

FAQ: iPhone 3G reception -- What's the problem?

This article pretty much sums it up, the 2.01 fix did not seem to help me any. I hope this can be fixed via a firmware update, I hope the chipset in the phone is not the root cause of the issues.

Apple releases 2.0.1 for Iphone

For starters, I longer use this phone for business. From what I hear At&t has good coverage in Houston but the Iphone phone has some serious issues in my opinion. I was and still am a Verizon customer and will continue to use my Blackberry and Treo with verizon in addition to my Iphone which is now my personal cell phone. 3G coverage from att is spotty at best. I drop a lot of calls and get call failure when I try to dial out.
As for the software update it seems to not be as glitchy but the devise does still slow down a bit between reboots. Switching between program is not quite as bad but sms is still slow to open and I still get the occational freeze here and there.

What was the deal with AOL email and dns this week?

For the last week Aol has been having what looks to be DNS issues resolving outside email servers. I received a lot of phone calls about this issue all week. I was able to call AOL noc or abuse line and they told me that they were aware of the situation and it would be fixed in 24-48 hours. It did take a bit longer than a day but this problem caused me a bunch of trouble with mad customers. I'm amazed that it would take AOL a week to solve such an issue and I'm surprise at how many people still rely on it.

Priority of Read

With search engine optimization you can get a lot of traffic. But does your web site convert that traffic into qualified leads, sales and customers? When you click on a seach result and go to a web page -what are your eyes drawn to? Is it relevant to the keyword phrase that you were searching? Even if your web page is relevant is that page credible?

Is Peak Oil going to lead to the next boom in IT?

What the best way to conserve gas and energy?
WORK FROM HOME!
I know a lot of jobs require employees in the office, but there is a lot that can be done from home. I also think it will improve employee quality of life and save energy not just gas.
  1. You don't have to get up as early
  2. No wasting time and gas sitting in traffic
  3. No running out to lunch driving around
  4. Less distractions - family and kids can be a challenge for some

How many servers do you use?

Server virtulization is now mature and mainstream. Most servers under utilize their cpu or now cpu's with multiply cores. If your running perfmon on your windows server will see low cpu utilization unless the server is a heavy hitter like and SQL box. You can now buy one really nice server and run several servers on one box alowing you to decommission older equipment and saving on your electric bill. There are plenty of free server virtualzation products that will work fine for smaller businesses. You will also gain hardware Independence. You can move a server by just copying a few files.

Iphone apps are updating

If you log into the app store on your Iphone you will notice that most of apps have released updates the past few days. I am still getting some random app crashing or just going into settings I'll crash to the home screen, I do seem to have to reboot everyday or it gets slow. I love the phone but I think they may have rushed it to market a little to soon. I also wish they would do something about the volume and the power consumption/energy crisis.
I'm also hoping they work on Exchange email, it is a bit stripped down and the no cut and paste lack of function really sucks for a product like this. I know it's not perfect but there are some basic funtions that are very annoying. Like not being able to snooze taks or if there is a way please let me know what I'm missing. I also don't like the inability to propose a new meeting time.
I'm really wishing for microsoft compatible rdp client, please Mister Jobs and Gates give this ability to us. Yes you can use vnc but I do not want to load it on my servers.
Some of the things I really like-
  • vpn but still wishing for rdp
  • web apps like my monitoring server, helpdesk server and spam filters - nothing yet for firewalls, maybe watchguard can come up with an Iphone app
  • I do like Google maps my son likes watching the dots and stop asking are we there yet
  • Pick and choose is a great grocery shopping app
  • Iremote is freaking awesome it uses wifi to control you itunes on your desktop
  • I'm digging youtube, I use it for Elmo video's for my daughter at bedtime
  • The camera works great you just have to keep still like any other cellphone camera
  • I don't like the mute button and wish it were a switch to lock the phone - ok this one is a complaint
  • There are so many cool things, I've not had the desire to waste my time and play games on the Iphone
