If you are looking for a cabinet or more, look to the bigger data center companies and facilities with a national presence and their agents. There have been several that have gone out of business and left their customers without service. If you need to colocate just a few servers ask the bigger providers if they have anyone they would recommend in their facility that can provide space. I think it is a good idea to ask the data center company because they will recommend companies that are stable and have expertise.
By spending a little more for dual cross connect, remote reboots and dual power from separate PDU's you can have an enterprise class solution at a reasonable cost. Not all providers will offer these services so choose carefully. If you are going to colocate your servers make sure you install some type of remote management card like the Dell DRAC. This will save you from having to get in the car in the middle of the night or having to call for remote support. With the remote management cards you can even reload your servers.
If you only need a single server with small resources a cloud server is probably going to be your best option until you grow into needing your own equipment. This will save you time and money. You will have no hardware to buy and cloud servers can be provisioned in only a few minutes.
